Hossam Abdellatif is a senior counterterrorism expert, with more than 30 years of experience in the field of law enforcement investigaton at the national, regional, and international levels. For two decades, Mr. Abdellatif served within the Egyptian Police force, with appointments in various departments, in prevalence in Criminal Investigation departments (CID).
As a Counter-Terrorism Criminal Intelligence Officer and Project Manager for the Middle East and North Africa at INTERPOL Organization for over 14 years, Mr. Abdellatif initiated and monitored numerous large-scale projects aiming to improve the global response to cross-border security challenges, through the planification, organization and coordination of more than 150 activities and training courses dedicated to capacity building, especially in the field of counter terrorism investigations. Working alongside various international civilian and law enforcement partners, Mr. Abdellatif supported the implementation of the organization’s strategy to combat terrorism, transnational organized crime and illicit trafficking in firearms, thus contributing to the enhancement of national operational and technical counterterrorism capacities and the development of a pool of counterterrorism experts in member countries.
As a member of the INTERPOL Major Incidents Response Team, Mr. Abdellatif supported the investigation od complex terrorist attacks in several countries, gathered and shared intelligence information, especially on so-called foreign terrorist fighters (IS FF), and contributed to the development of targeted policy recommendations and comprehensive counterterrorism strategies.
In order to bolster regional cooperation and improve the efficiency of law enforcement efforts in tackling cross-border terrorism via collective security mechanisms and information exchanges, Mr. Abdellatif contributed to the organization of joint field operations, regional workshops and thematic conferences. He was also the initiator and chairman of the INTERPOL Counter-Terrorism Committee for the Middle East and North Africa, with the participation of multilateral organizations such as several UN and EU security agencies, the Arab League, and the NATO.
Throughout his career, Mr. Abdellatif developed an extended network with the top-level management within the Ministries of Interior of several countries, in addition to diverse law enforcement agencies.
Mr. Abdellatif is currently serving as an International Law Enforcement Border Control Expert at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
